LABOURERS’ EQUITY AND DIVERSITY (LEAD) CHARTER OF INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY

All human beings are born free and equal in rights and dignity. No person should be discriminated against because of their race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital or family status, or disability.

We condemn racism.
We condemn discrimination against Women.
We condemn discrimination based upon sexual orientation or gender identity.
We condemn all forms of religious discrimination.
Racism, hate, intolerance, and bigotry have no place in our industry.

The Labourers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA) was built on diversity and is a Union that continues proudly united in the fight for racial, economic, and social justice. Established in 1903 LiUNA sought to raise the voice of the unheard, build stronger futures and bring justice to working people. Today we continue to ensure that all voices are heard and stand in solidarity against the vast injustices ingrained in society. As an industry, we have remained diligent in all efforts to build a culture that allows all to work free of discrimination.

LiUNA continues to take critical steps forward to promote racial and gender diversity and inclusion in our industry and throughout our communities. We will take necessary steps in partnership with industry to build stronger, prosperous communities that celebrate its vibrancy and amplify opportunity so that together we will continue building a truly inclusive workplace.

It will take time and effort to implement these commitments. It will not be easy, but it must be done. We owe it to ourselves, and to each other, to do better.
