LiUNA Local 183 Hosts Annual Scholarship Trust Fund Ceremony
Labourers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 183 awards 129
scholarships at its 27th annual award ceremony.
TORONTO – Labourers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 183 hosted its 27th Annual Scholarship Ceremony, recognizing 129 exceptional students who will receive financial support for their post-secondary education.
Every year, the LiUNA Local 183 Scholarship Trust Fund provides scholarships to the children and grandchildren of Local 183 members and retirees, highlighting the importance of access to higher education and the role it plays in building strong, resilient communities. This year’s recipients represent a wide range of academic interests and career paths, reflecting the diversity, talent, and drive of LiUNA Local 183 families across all areas of LiUNA Local 183.
“Today marks a special milestone. On the 27th anniversary of the LiUNA Local 183
Scholarship Trust Fund, we’ve distributed $1,032,000 in scholarships,” said Jack
Oliveira, Business Manager of Local 183. “It’s an honour to help our members and their families pursue their educational aspirations.”
Since its inception in 2006, the LiUNA Local 183 Scholarship Trust Fund has granted over 1,100 amounting to over $10.5 million in scholarships. Over the years, the fund has continued to grow both in scope and impact, reinforcing Local 183’s ongoing commitment to investing in the next generation.
“This is what our union is built on, looking out for one another and building a better future for those who come after us,” Oliveira added. “Our members work hard every day to build our cities. Tonight is about investing in their children and grandchildren, and the futures they’re building for themselves.”

LiUNA Local 183 is pleased to share a great scholarship opportunity for the son, daughter, or ward of a person whose principal income comes from the pipeline construction industry.
The parent or guardian must be employed by a PLCAC member company. The Pipe Line Contractors Association of Canada (PLCAC) is now accepting applications for its Student Award Program 2025-2026.
Who is Eligible
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet both of the following conditions:
- Be the son, daughter, or ward of a person whose principal income comes from the pipeline construction industry. The parent or guardian must be employed by a PLCAC member company.
- Be enrolled full-time in a diploma or degree program at a recognized Canadian college or university. Post-graduate students may also apply.

- Opens: September 18, 2025
- Closes: October 17, 2025
